Ron is the managing shareholder of Chapman Law Group’s Michigan Office and represents clients nationally in the areas of health care fraud and abuse, federal investigations, DEA registration matters, and physician licensing defense. Ron provides an aggressive and focused representation of health care professionals facing serious federal investigations, criminal charges, or license revocation. Ron has achieved notable high-profile acquittals of health care professionals facing criminal charges and has successfully assisted a broad range of health care entities to avoid prosecution when facing large-scale federal investigations. As a former prosecutor, Ron also has a significant amount of experience dealing with state and federal agencies during high-level criminal investigations, criminal trials, and administrative proceedings.
In his most recent trial, United States v. Dr. Aggarwal, two physicians were charged with unlawfully prescribing suboxone while working at (a treatment facility) Redirections Treatment Advocates (RTA) in Weirton, WV. Based on his specific experience in defending addiction medicine providers and Suboxone, Ron Chapman II joined the trial team for this and other companion cases. As a result of our pre-trial preparation and trial presentation our client was acquitted of all counts of unlawful drug distribution and conspiracy after a two-week jury trial.
Ron has been published in national publications in the areas of defending physician overprescribing, health care compliance, and federal criminal defense. His work on litigating health care fraud allegations was recently published in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers publication, The Champion. He is a regular contributing author to Medpage Today and was asked to publish a guide to conducting healthcare internal investigations for the State Bar of Michigan.
Ron has also been invited to speak nationally on the area of health care compliance by the American Conference Institute, the International Conference on Opioids at Harvard Medical School, the Florida board of pharmacy, and he regularly teaches CME eligible courses for the Michigan State Medical Society.
Ron is a graduate of Loyola School of Law where he received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a concentration in healthcare compliance. He has been named as a 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Super Lawyers Rising Star for his contributions to criminal law and health care law and was named as a Michigan Lawyers Weekly Top Lawyer. Ron is also a co-chair of the Michigan Bar Health Care Law Sections’ Substantive Law Committee.
Ron re-joined the Chapman Law Group after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a former public defender and prosecutor in the U.S. Marine Corps, he proved himself as a talented advocate and leader in and out of the courtroom. Ron served as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps with eight honorable years of service achieving the rank of Captain. Ron prosecuted and defended both felony and misdemeanor cases on behalf of the U.S. Government ranging from violent offenses to narcotics and weapons trafficking. Ron was deployed to Afghanistan as a legal advisor to a battalion of Marines conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Ron is a recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
